James D. Qualk is vice president and team leader for the Sustainable Solutions Group of
SSRCx, LLC which he helped form in 2007.  He is responsible for the management of operations
and the direction of marketing and sales of sustainable consulting services that include: LEED
facilitation, LEED feasibility analysis, energy modeling, various commissioning services, and
other sustainability consulting services.  He also lectures in the Civil Engineering department of
Vanderbilt University, his alma mater, in a graduate class titled CE 298 – Building Systems and
LEED.  In addition, he is an Adjunct and lectures at Lipscomb University in the Institute for
Sustainable Practice in a class about another passion of his, renewable energy.  He serves on
various boards and councils to provide advice and perspective relating to his role in the overall
sustainability and green building movements.  

James is also a regular writer and speaker and has presented multiple papers at conferences
across the United States and internationally.  He maintains two blogs one on the local Tennessee
Green website where his articles range from describing up to the minute information regarding to
LEED and building commissioning while also trying to connect outside of the building industry
with topics like electric cars, organic wine and local political issues.  His other blog for
Environmental Design and Construction Magazine and Sustainable Facility Magazine appears
monthly and delves deeper into the issues on the frontline of sustainability topics from the
perceived “Problems with LEED” to “Net Zero buildings”.  Last year, his articles included two
industry trade magazine cover stories.  One he co-authored with Paul McCown titled “Busting the
Myth that Green Costs More” appeared on the cover of HPAC Engineering magazine.  James
also writes guest articles for the Tennessean and appears regularly in articles pertaining to
greening buildings in the State
